HEALTH:
A MAJOR INITIATIVE: Pongborong Health Care Center Clinic Project
The Ayual Community has faced great challenges, particularly in terms
of adequate health care. The nearest facility is 20 kilometers away, accessible
only by foot. ACDA is working to build a facility located in the community
that will be functioning within the next two years. This will benefit
not only the 40,000 Ayual Community members, but also neighboring communities.
It will be the first health center of its kind in the area. This health
care center is one of the first major developments in this area of post
war Southern Sudan. Another goal is to train community members to provide
basic medical services in remote areas. Other health-related development
projects include water purification and sanitation.
Our approximate cost
for construction is $250,000. Please click on the links below for full

EDUCATION:
MAJOR INITIATIVES
The population of the Ayual community is about 40,000, of which ninety
percent are uneducated. However, the community is working to initiate
vital educational programs. The Ayual Community Development Association
has already funded the establishment of a school, the Pongborong Primary
School, which currently serves about 800 students from grades one through
seven. Future funds will be used to:
- Build a library
in Pongborong Primary School
- Purchase school
supplies, such as books and accompanying curriculum materials
- Pay for tuition
and books for Ayual community "Lost Girls" and "Lost Boys" attending
colleges and universities in the United States, should there be
enough resources to do so.
PONGBORONG PRIMARY
SCHOOL
Pongborong Primary School (PPS) was established on August 13th, 2004,
with the help of former head teacher, John Deng Akoy. At the time, PPS
had 8 volunteer teachers and 336 pupils. The number of pupils as gown

2008, enrollment reached 752 students, who are taught by 14 teachers.
